MRC Arts

The MRCSA conducts cultural development projects to encourage people of humanitarian background to participate in creative arts. These projects affirm cultural identity, increase awareness of the arts industry, and encourage cross-cultural understanding.

Projects are delivered through partnerships with arts organisations that support participation of young people, their families and communities.

MRC ARTS coordinates cultural development programs supported by Arts SA and the Australia Council for the Arts, Adelaide Festival Centre Trust, Come Out Youth Festival and Adelaide Fringe Festival. The arts program works closely with young people and the MRCSA community programs teams to facilitate youth arts projects.

SpiritSong!

Performers from South Australia’s newest communities are developing a celebration of music, dance, song, comedy and visuals from around the world. It will be a feast of traditions and styles showcasing the new face of multicultural Australia, featuring performers from many communities, including Rwandan, Sudanese, Bhutanese, Afghan, Kurdish, Burmese, Burundian, and Uzbek communities.

SA Refugee Week Schools Poster Award Project

As part of a program to engage young art students, the MRCSA, in partnership with the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre at the University of South Australia, is hosting a poster award and exhibition. Through their schools, young artists will be invited to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the UN International Refugee Convention by designing a poster communicating how refugees are welcomed, become part of, and/or contribute to the Australian ‘family’. The SA Refugee Week Schools Poster Award will become an annual event.

This year’s finalists will be exhibited at the Kerry Packer Civic Gallery at the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, University of South Australia, from 14 June to 13 July 2011. The exhibition launch will be held on World Refugee Day, Monday 20 June. The exhibition will then tour to regional and metropolitan galleries. The MRCSA invites classes and individual students to register their interest to participate.  For a copy of the rules of entry and a registration form, contact the MRCSA (tel.) 08 8217 9510 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
